    1976 Papua New Guinea Proof Set In Original Packaging - Silver - Low Mintage - 8 Coins.
    In original case with original white cardboard sleeve. The coins are in the sealed cardboard plastic display card.
    Minted at the Franklin Mint
    The Coins portray Papua New Guinea's extraordinary wildlife.  Currency is the Toeas and the Kina.
    100 Toeas = 1 Kina
    "Toeas" named from a shell that was used in island barter
    "Kina" named after an early form of currency in the region. the pearl shell
    10 Kina Coin
    features the Bird of Paradise and five stars of the Southern Cross constellation
    5 Kina Coin
    features a Guinea Eagle
    1 Kina Coin
    features two Crocodiles and a hole in the middle.  The hole was used as a tie to the past when the coin would be worn on strings or carried on sticks.  The reverse features a stylized emblem of the Bank of Papau New Guinea.

    A little history - the feathers of the Bird of Paradise and the Guinea Eagle were used as currency in the distant past of Papau New Guinea.
    The Certificate of Authenticity is dated - MAR 16 1976
    The set contains (8-Coins) the large 10 Kina coin is struck in sterling silver, and weighs 41 grams, the 5 Kina is struck in 0.500 silver and weighs in at 27.6 grams
    The two smallest denominations are bronze; four are copper-nickel; the largest two are silver.  The set comes in its card, case and sleeve of issue, and its papers of issue.
